about

Hijacked Records Detroit is celebrating 20 years! Our first 10 years were focused on throwing parties; some of which are still talked about as legendary today. This past 10 years saw us shift focus and channel our energy into releasing quality techno. We thought it only fitting to celebrate with this loaded ep. Are you ready?

The Year 2050 opens with Antwon Faulkner’s “Forward Thinking.” We’re transported to a mechanical, post-industrial type future narrated by space and techno’s greatest philosopher. This track would be great for both intros and outros, as well as personal listening. With the stage set appropriately you are now ready to move to phase 2.

Next up is another Antwon Faulkner original titled “Human.” Antwon brings you the funk with a message that good techno is made from the soul. The framework of this 4/4 track is immersed in fluid key work. When the attitude turns up on the chords at 1 minute 55 a smile will start to grow. At 3:03 Antwon flirts with balancing harmonies that highlight those vacillating chords. The intensity builds a little as it all comes together at 3:41. The breakdown is around the 5:05 mark but we get another solid minute of dancefloor mayhem before it winds it all down. The track is drenched in attitude that’s perfect for letting go and getting’ the eph down.

Conversely, Antwon offers up its counterpart in “Machine.” Esoteric and almost sinister against an effortless snare and high-hat home base. This track tells the story of “Human” but with a different perspective. Not a remix but similar elements with an opposing view.

Antwon’s last track “Dogon” channels his roots true to his past and future. A dominant beat gives way to playful chords; at first understated but then growing more prominent and almost malevolent. Antwon enters banger mode at 2:59. This is the harder of the other tracks; a typical Antwon Faulkner tactic. This would be a great track for peak hours; full, rich production work against an unforgiving beat.

We were originally planning on just having Antwon on the 20 Year Anniversary but our friend Brandon DeCarlo created a killer remix of “Dogon” that deserves to be heard. Since we’re all about quality techno, we’re happy to close out on Brandon’s “Dogon – Brandon DeCarlo remix.” Brandon takes his

time building anticipation until he lets that beat kick at 2:05. Antwon’s track is a little darker and on the aggressive side while Brandon goes straight for the upbeat funk. He brings parts of the original in and out of audible focus, slightly disarming you and pulling you in. At 4:07 we come out of our breakdown with renewed energy. There’s almost a defiance at the same time as a persistently inviting. Another great dancefloor track!

We hope that keeps you busy for a little bit. If it just made you hungry for more; don’t worry, we’re sitting on something big.
