After a more house oriented release, Hijacked Records Detroit gives us "Resurgence." A quality release with 3 really well rounded tracks that speak volumes reminding us that first and foremost, Hijacked Records is about Detroit Techno. A brand new track from Antwon Faulkner, Gusto and a powerful debut track from Rob Rage makes for a really DJ and dance floor friendly release. The EP opens with Antwon Faulkner's "New Jack Swing." Antwon uses crisp highs against a really funky beat. He accents the funk with the soul of Detroit chords but keeps it interesting but modifying your conventional 4/4 beat. As with all of Antwon's tracks, this is a stylish release that will keep you dancing. Next, we have Rob Rage's debut track "Orbitron." This is seriously fantastic break into the production scene. Knowing Rob's personal tastes, he will always gravitate towards a faster, more energetic tempo. With "Orbitron" he has found a perfect middle ground. Rob mixes a darker upbeat reminiscent of an older Claude Young track, with soft chords and mids similar to what you've heard from Dan Curtain's Peacefrog stuff. Throw in your obligatory Aux 88 type sample run through a vocoder and you can begin to imagine what "Orbitron" sounds like. This, my friends, is a killer track! Closing out the EP is Gusto's "Nite Train". This track opens with a hard snare and super funkadelic baseline. Gusto uses filters and echo effectively applied over his mids and effects that create that old warehouse feel he is known for. When well established DJs produce tracks, as in this case, you're getting tracks that are not only great to listen to but perfect for mixing. With style and quality being key elements for a Hijacked release, refreshingly, so is originality. Resurgence is a profound release in terms of exhibiting these artist's skills.
