Hijacked Records Detroit’s latest ep, “Revolution,” means something, and you can feel it. When an artist goes through something in their personal life, they often express themselves through whatever medium is at their disposal. The result is a powerful thing, and in this case, it is a beautifully mastered thoughtful, moving, and ruthless release. Antwon Faulkner is ready for the revolution. Are you?

Antwon Faulkner offers up three new full tracks and opens the release with an intro, the title track, “Revolution.” In four minutes he manages to transport you to what we describe as being inside the Detroit Techno machine, as if it were an actual vehicle. Beautiful, enveloping strings set the stage over an ominous backdrop. Against that we hear sounds that could be machine based, from space, or from another world altogether somewhere in the future. Carefully calculated sound bites from our favourite forefathers carry the message; the culture, the movement, the future….the revolution.

Next up is “The Force,” and true to its name, this track brings the heat! Upbeat and funky, this track bares Antwon’s signature sound. Punctuated with those infamous Detroit style chords, Antwon always finds a way to make Detroit sound different, to take it, and us, to new levels. The 3:30 mark of this track is that next level. “The Force” will have your dancefloor movin’.

“Discovery” kicks in with a beast of a bassline. While any of Antwon’s tracks sound killer on a big system, we highly recommend checkin’ this track out on headphones to fully appreciate all the nuances and intricacies in this beautifully complex piece. This is that “turn it up and close your eyes” type track; warm and mind-altering.

When something challenging happens to you, do you lie down and take it on the chin? Neither does Antwon. “Revenge” is that track that says “not today.” This track is darker, harder, and defiant right down to the killer vocal sample. One of those tracks that instantly crowds the dance floor, everyone stops talking and starts getting’ down. “Revenge” is a perfect and powerful closer on this incredible ep.

The revolution will not be televised, but is will be on the radio, the internet, and world wide. Time to wake up!
